Artist in Residence 2024 | The Drake | Jacksonville, FL
Kirsten Lahmann
Kirsten specializes in a hybrid of resin work and acrylic canvas pieces, focusing on repurposing broken surfboards into wall art. Her passion for art began in childhood when she enjoyed drawing, sketching, and participating in art contests. She studied Art & Visual Communications at Northern Arizona University and started her career as a graphic designer, working for her university, advertising agencies, and eventually a large beauty brand. After a decade in corporate design, Kirsten yearned for hands-on artistic expression, leading her to Ormond Beach, Florida, where she now creates and showcases her own art.
The beach has always felt like home to Kirsten, and her artwork draws inspiration from the ocean. She paints ocean-inspired pieces on canvas and creates resin pours over surfboards, favoring marine life subjects, beach scenery, and ocean water themes. Her collection features smooth open space gradients and lively, energetic color streaks. Kirsten uses spray paint, acrylics, and cool/warm color crossovers to craft calming, harmonious compositions. Water, as a subject, offers a multitude of beautiful expressions that captivate her and present a fun challenge to capture. Her pieces aim to ignite a love for marine and beach life.
Kirsten thrives on engaging with other artists and is passionate about seeing how creativity manifests in others. Networking at galleries and art shows is one of her favorite activities. At her local gallery, the motto is "collaborate and elevate," sharing ideas and insights to grow the art community. Kirsten respects the need for quiet focus during the creative process, allowing new ideas to solidify.
